Trumpf / Wila compatible press brake tooling — what is it?
Trumpf and Wila compatible tooling uses a 20 mm safety tang with hardened locking pins. The pins engage the clamp so the punch cannot drop out when the clamp is opened. This safety interface is the main difference from Amada-style tooling, which relies on the clamp alone.
| Item | Reference value | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Punch tang | 20 mm | With safety tang and locking pins |
| Segment lengths | 100 mm and longer | Segments combine to the required working length |
| Retention | Mechanical locking pins | Punch cannot fall when the clamp opens |
| Typical die bodies | European section heights | Die body height differs from Amada-style dies |
| Crowning | Compatible with motorised and manual crowning | Confirm crowning system on the machine |
Which profiles are available?
Profiles are supplied to the standard dimensions of the system, so they can be combined with existing tooling of the same system. Special profiles, radii and offsets are produced to drawing.
| Profile | Angle range | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Standard / straight punch | 28°–90° | General 90° bending |
| Gooseneck punch | 30°–88° | Return flanges and deep sections |
| Acute punch | 28°–60° | Springback compensation on high-strength steel |
| Radius punch | varies | Controlled inner radius without a wide V opening |
| Single-V die | 30° / 88°, often 60 or 80 mm body | Basic air bending |
| 2V die | 30°–90° | Two openings, quick changeover |
| Multi-V die | up to 4 openings | Thickness range in one die body |
| Rolla-V (rotary) die | 30°–90° | Mark-free bending on coated or polished sheet |
Why the safety tang matters
On a Wila-style clamp the punch locks in mechanically. When the operator opens the clamp, the pins hold the punch in place instead of letting it drop onto the bed or onto hands. When replacing tooling, check that the pins move freely and that the tang meets the clamp without excessive play. A worn tang or a stuck pin is a handling hazard, not just a precision problem.
What to check before ordering
- Tang generation. Older and newer safety tang profiles are not always interchangeable.
- Segment splits. Confirm whether the machine is set up for 100, 415 or 835 mm segments.
- Die body height. Height determines whether crowning and clamping still work.
- Clamping system. Confirm whether the machine uses mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic clamping.

Frequently asked questions
These are the questions buyers ask most often when specifying tooling for this system.
- What is the tang size of Trumpf and Wila press brake tooling?
- 20 mm. The Trumpf and Wila safety tang is 20 mm and carries hardened locking pins that retain the punch in the clamp. Confirm the exact profile and pin position against your machine data sheet.
- What is the difference between Trumpf-style and Wila-style tooling?
- They share the same 20 mm safety tang concept and are commonly treated as one group, but locking pin geometry and clamp interfaces can differ between generations and builders. Always confirm against the specific machine.
- Can I use Amada-style tooling in a Wila clamp with an adapter?
- Adapters exist for some combinations, but the clamping, retention and safety behaviour changes. Confirm with the clamp manufacturer that the combination is rated for the tool load and that retention is positive.
- What is a Rolla-V die and when should I use it?
- A Rolla-V die has a rotating insert that turns with the workpiece as it is bent. Because the sheet is not dragged across the die shoulders, marking is greatly reduced, which matters for coated, polished or pre-finished sheet.
Confirm the system for your machine
Send the machine make and model, or a photo of the punch tang and the clamp, and we will confirm the tooling system and quote standard or special tooling.
